Yes, yes, yes, I know I need to do my official “2009 what am I going to get done this year letter” but yesturday we took our first LONG paddle in a long time. All in all we were out paddling for about 4 hours, and that can be a long time in them little boats when you have not done it in a while. It started out to be just our usual paddle out and around the radio tower mountain to what we call Godzilla Rock, and turn back. This time however we got a big surprise! It was a very calm day so sounds carried for a far distance and I thought I heard what sounded like a gun shot from off in the distance, but then I saw the fountain of missty water, yes, Whales.
We paddled into a small herd of Gray Whales that seemed to just be resting and they just bobbed up and down and never seemed to move. The main herd was sitting about 75 yards to the north of us and as we tried to take some photos and enjoy the site a small baby surfaced about 50 feet from Debbie, which caught us off gaurd, and needless to say it was very exciting. So it was a great day of paddling and you could not ask for more in the way of conditions and the hospitality we received from out friends the Whales. We took some pictures, but they just did not come out very good,,,,sorry.
Although this is for fun, we are also kind of getting in shape and conditoning ourselves for Feburary when we plan on taking a trip to Mulege and go on a multi day trip and explor the coast or some of the islands. Mulege sits about 12 hours south of us and is located along the Sea of Cortez. It’s a beautiful area, but can also be dangerous due to the high winds. We took a trip south two years ago and celebrated out 25th anivercery, so that means….yes, we’ll be celebrating 27 years of marrige on lonely beaches and possibley, hopefully, deserted islands. I’m sure we’ll be posting pictures and stories of this adventure.

OK…that is NOT a whale. That is an old ship, obviously run aground.
Just how long where you in the sun that day?

Jim,,,Well,,,,it’s a whale of a ship!—????
We took some photos’s but they really did not come out good enough to post. We went out last weekend, but no whales, but the glass we paddled out on soon became very rough and choppy.
LORI!!!! yea girl you go,,,,go climb that wall with your Man! Actually Debbie fell in love with Kayaking more than I did, or it least it seemed. She’s still a bit slow to go into caves and tight spots, or paddle into the blow hole—but she does just fine.
