As of now,,no. I’d say I’ve seen more buzz around town over the swine flu than I have with the Drug Cartel, and yes, we have seen plenty walking around with their little blue mask, but still, Ensenada remains clean of the virus. Most of the scare is really concentrated in Mexico City and they have made some big moves to take care of the problem, such as closing schools, Government offices, and stuff like that. Here, kids still go to school, offices are open, however Pastor Vera did cancel church, which to me was and odd move. But I guess he did this out of the request from the Convención Nacional Bautista de México. He did mention that this in no way is reason to panic or to think that death is coming to us all. Cell groups will still be going on plus youth group this weekend.

Funny to me that alone in the US over 20,000 people die every year to flu related illnesses, but yet you never really hear anything about that, that is until something like this comes along. Also, it always strikes us when groups show up with people sick with the FLU, then, guess who gets sick? But, people are bound and determined to come serve the Lord and they lay in their bunk and bring the Flu to us. Last weekend was the big sail boat regatta and I guess there were those that had a large amount of fear and stayed on their boats,,,,including Dr. Laura! I’m just not sure what people really think! When you look at what is going on in our own country with all the changes in our liberties and way of life I’m starting to get the picture of George Orwell’s 1984! And no one really seems to care,,,,but don’t get off that boat and go shopping in Ensenada! I’m thinking eventually I’ll just need to head down town and take some video and make a little movie about Vida Normal here in Mexico.

Tomorrow we’ll be heading to a Missions Conference in Northern California and we must consider this…So far there are more reports of Swine Flu in California than there is in Baja Ca. So, do we cancel our trip as many are doing in the States to come to Mexico in fears of catching the flu in California??? No, sorry, we’ll be heading out nice and early and looking forward to visiting friends and family.

  1. Hey, Dennis – where in No Cal will you be??? And for how long?

Oh – and good thoughts! It always interesting to get your perspective on things like this. Thanks for all you do!

  2. Hi,
I loved reading your feeling on the swine in Ensanada. My daughter is at the Calvary Bible college in Ensanada and I have to say I was a tiny bit worried. I was there in April and loved the town. It is funny how the media talks about the drug cartel and all the horrible stuff in Mexico. What about all the mess in the states and half of it I bet we don’t even hear about. Anyway I loved our visit to Ensanada and met wonderful friendly people. Thank you, Terri
