Apple G5 Power Mac, Power Mac 2.5 quad Core, 10 Gig Mem., 500 MB Sata, Quadro FX 4500 Video w/512 mb.
We all see the commercials about PC vs. Mac and that poor old guy that nervously tries to compete with Mac who calmly helps him stumble to what ever endless point PC guy is trying to make. For a long time the commercials kind of bugged me as I was a true hearted PC guy. I’ve always been a PC guy and the first thing I did to my 486DX 33 Mhz computer with 8 megs of ram and a 850 mb Hard Drive was to take off the cover and see what’s inside. Shortly later my neighbor helped me install a bigger hard drive and then from there I never looked back. I proceed on my personal search for the PC that best suited my needs and being a big PC gamer I found the only way to do it was to build my own machines. I’d buy all the components needed and them assemble my PC gaming/work horse computer and I must say that some of my machines have simply been outstanding.
Over the last few years I have played around with video editing and I’ve always heard that Mac is the best for that, but who really knew. I visited a friend of mine that works at Apple’s HQ’s and I had a boat load of questions for him about Mac’s and what all the differences were. We got so far into the conversation and he offered me an older Power Mac G5 that he had laying around, and with in a few weeks I had a running G5 on my desktop. It was a bit odd and it took a little getting used to but I think I’ve adapted very well. So as I compare both machines I feel like I have a good understanding as to how they actually compare and I still feel for PC guy, and Mac guy needs to have a bit of respect.
My Mac
It never crashes, well ok I think it hung up on me once or twice. Still though runs like a dream It seems to flow, Hard to explain–if ya get one you’ll know what I mean
Simple layout means less time–The Dock Station takes getting used to, but It makes more sense than “Start”
Runs the programs I have on it without a hitch–So far I think only Firebird hung up on me.
It’s a let’s get down to work kind of Machine–It’s always ready to work when you are.
I Love Mac Stores–The person you first talk to might not have the answer, but they will find someone who does. Also,,they have classes and tutorial books that are fantastic.
I Love Spaces!!! Spaces is such a cool thing!!
No virus issues
My PC
Yes, it does crash–It hangs up, it freezes, and sometimes it just gets plane frustrating.
Sometimes I feel as if I’m forcing it to flow–It’s a Love/Hate relationship
I think Micro Soft has a simple layout as well–However, I never did understand clicking “Start” to shut down your machine??!?!?!?!
My Premier Pro crashed often, as well other programs
It’s a let’s get some work done and play too!–This is the BIG advantage PC has over Mac besides it’s customization and digging into your machine kind of PC Tech Geek stuff.
Sorry, Best Buy’s Geek squad needs a Mac Store Mentality–And not to mention Microsoft’s out sourcing it’s tech support.
Why is Windows always trying to look like a Mac??
Gotta have your guard up all the time–You mess up one time and forget to close your door and you are in trouble for sure.
So, outside of this I kind of see it like this…It’s like comparing my Classic car to a BMW.
I love my Classic car and the possibilities of customization are endless. I love my PC and what it can be, and what I can take control and build it from Case UP!. Ya gotta lift the hood all the time to get it to run great and ya gotta be looking for every ounce of Speed that you can find. So, the PC is a great machine (that is if you take care of it) and it can be a very powerful machine, I still have my PC but I use it mostly for the “Gaming” issue, and some of you know that EnseNADAslim loves his PC gaming. I think the best OS for the PC has been Windows XP and I’ll be waiting for a while until I make the move to Windows 7. So although the Mac commercials that are out there slamming Windows 7, I’m sure it’s going to be a good fix to Vista, but again–Microsoft deserves it because they just can never get it right the first time!!!!
On the Mac side of things, I kind of like not having to worry about it and it’s just always ready to work. The learning curve is not a big issue with me and it’s been fun to just see how easy and simple Mac has made their operating system. I’m still getting used to the file system and “packets”, I just need to buckle down get it figured out and organize my “Packets”. I had my Windows keyboard hooked up to it but I eventually got a nice new Mac Keyboard, and I’m impressed with the smooth typing action, size, and cool look—-looks too nice on my messy desk. As time goes I hope to someday make the move to a G5 Mac Pro and see how much I can do with the intel chip set, but I think that is a ways off.
So if you are thinking of getting a new PC and you are not into PC gaming I’d for sure recommend getting a Mac, and yea, it might cost you a bit more in the budget area, but it will be money well spent. If you are a PC game, stay with PC and windows and when you buy a machine have some fun with it and build it your self or use sites like this to configure your Dream Machine.
A Big Thank You to my Good Friend Don Beirdenau, yea, you converted me!

Hi, Dennis.
I’ve messed with a few Macs in my life, but never seriously considered getting one for the kind of work I do.
I think the reason I don’t use Mac or Windows very much is that I have been computing since the days of MSDOS. I played with an Apple Lisa once, and several versions of Mac, up to the GS. But the death knell for windows was when I tried OS/2. OS/2 Warp 3 came out at about the same as Windows95. OS/2 was “WAY Better!”
My PC doesn’t crash very much at all. quite rarely, in fact. I found Linux several years ago, and have always liked the stability of that OS. I’ve used several different distributions (distros), like Mandrade (now Mandriva), RedHat, Fedora, Ubuntu (my current), and a couple others tried. They are SO nice to use, good hardware support, get the job done. I can run Windows in a virtual machine if I want it, but what for?
I have OpenOffice, Firefox, Evolution Mail (like Outlook), Ekiga (like Skype), and NO VIRUSes or MALWARE, EVER!
I can burn DVDs and CDs without installing a program or driver. It finds my printers without me searching the internet for a driver, (a la Windows XP). I have two laser printers attached to my network, and installing them was very fast. HP Laserjet 1012 (b/w) and Konica Magicolor 2530DL (color, of course).
I do websites, and don’t miss Dreamweaver at all.
Macs are supposed to be great for doing publishing stuff. Well I can do anything I saw done with a Mac on OpenOffice. PageMaker is a beast!
Now for gamers, I don’t think you can do your high-end games on a Mac, can you?
Just my $.02. YMMV.
