A whizzz and a pop, the sizzle and smoke of the Grill, friends, family, or neighbors blocking off their streets to set up the bounce house and for the the bicycle parades—ahhh yes, it’s the 4th of July! I guess if anyone was to ask us what our most missed Holiday is I’d have to say hands down that it is the 4th of July. I can still remember our 4th of July that took place back in 1995 just before our move to Mexico and it was a very somber mood as I watched the fireworks show, watched the bright light streak across the sky as the Space Shuttle passed overhead (yes, the Space Shuttle), and ate grilled food with my buddy Greg Silkwood and his family. I realized that I was really going to miss this day and all it stood for and I had to really wonder what it was going to be like not being in the US of A. Read the rest of this entry »

We had a week without groups and the work horse intern slave driver thought it would be good to take off for a couple days and get to know his staff better and for them to get to know each other better. We took care of some work duties most of the week and then we headed out on Thursday for Erendira. Erendira is a very small community that sits about an hour south of Ensenada, then you head south and find your little spot on the beach and call it home for as long as you want. This camping is roughing it as there are no bathrooms, no hook-ups, or stores to go to, so it’s the real deal.

We started the trip off by setting up camp and then right away the crew headed down to the water and got Read the rest of this entry »

This is what we started off with---Monday Day One

This is what we started off with---Monday Day One

Our first house project was kicked into gear by Horizon Community Church of Galt California! It was exciting to finally get started on summer after what seemed to be a very long spring time dealing with all the issues that kept some groups from coming. This group from Horizon is special to us as it is made up of different families from the church. This year they were going to build a home for a Brother by the name of Gabriel. Gabriel is married and has two children and he has been waiting almost 2 years for this to happen. Gabriel aquired land from his father and one of the first things he wanted to do with it was to start a chruch! Many this vision is shared in order to get us to build a house, so Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve got about 10 minutes to sit here and Blog away. We have some friends pulling into town by way of “Carnival Cruise” and we’re going to play tourer guides today. Actually this is a family from our home church in Canyon Lake and Bruce who is with this group was actually one of Nicki’s teachers when she was in grade school. We enjoy this time as we kind of get to show off our humble town and we hope to give a different view of life in Ensenada.

Life has been crazy, fun, frustrating, busy, and summer always has all of this for us and much more. Trying to stay up on Summer is often like trying to Read the rest of this entry »

Finally, our delivery from ARLA came in and now we have some Steel Studs!

Finally, our delivery from ARLA came in and now we have some Steel Studs!

The summer is off and running and the project that we are currently working on is going GREAT! We have a group here from Galt, CA–Horizon Community Church’s Family Trip. Although I must say that it has been at times a choppy road getting here, but the work has begun, Ready-Or-Not! We started the year off with 13 groups scheduled to come and that meant 14-15 house building projects, but we ended up with only 8 dedicated groups that knew that no matter what the Media had to Spin that the Lord was in control, not them. So for us every group that comes down this year is an extra Blessing to our lives in a personal way, and I know they are a especially a blessing to the families they have come to serve. We are dog lovers and we let Kabic and Tormenta sleep in our room with us, that is they sleep on the floor. Kabic is a pure white Kishu, a Japanese breed and he’s an amazing 13 years old. Tormenta is a Cattle/Australian Cattledog Mix and she is a very active 3 years old. Usually in the morning as we all start to wake up the dogs will make their way outside to take care of business, then they come back in, lay down, and in Kabic’s case, Go Back to Sleep. This morning however when Kabic came back to lay down he was not interested in sleeping and he was making a funny whimpering sound. It was kind of dark in the room and I could see that he was acting strange, but I did not know why. I looked closer and come to find out he had a little Good Morning surprise for us—A Bird! We just had to laugh and then kindly ask Kabic to go outside and set the poor little DEAD bird down. So with a little guidance he did so. Read the rest of this entry »

Ahhhwwweee! I cut off my Goatie so I can see exactly how bad it is.

Ahhhwwweee! I cut off my Goatie so I can see exactly how bad it is.

For the last couple years I’ve been walking around  looking like a snow storm had just taken place on my head. I’d wonder if people thought that maybe I had forgotten how to take a shower and how to wash hair. Also,,,behind my ears has also been a mess, thank goodness I like fairly long hair, so at times it was most likely hard to see. Debbie being the thoughtful wife has been brushing my shoulders for sometime now and this last Spring I finally could not take the discomfort any more, so I headed off to the Dermatologist. I was diagnosed with Read the rest of this entry »

All I could say when I saw Debbie was..."Wow!"

Debbie and I recently attended out 30th class reunion and I must say that the whole weekend was like one big party and a true reunion of good friends. Debbie and I started dating during our Senior year so, we not only attended as husband and wife (Boy friend & Girl friend), but the both of us attended as Class Mates as well. This was to also be a time to pay our respects to one of our fallen classmates, Jeff Lee, who passed away this last year and one special ways that this was done was to have his two beautiful daughters Bianca and Camila attend the reunion. This is something they desired very much and I think there were many people there that enjoyed sharing stories of  their Dad to them. Read the rest of this entry »
