For me the Super Bowl marks a very fun, but sad day. Fun because I know it’s time to invite the whole church over to eat pizza and watch the game, and sad because lately the Dallas Cowboys have not been in the Super Bowl and it’s the last day of Football. Our Super Bowl parties started out in the intentions of just having the guys over to yell, high five, eat pizza, and jab at each other, but this is Mexico and they do things a little different. No matter how much you communicate “Guys Only” the wives and kids usually come in tow, which at first was a bit frustrating. But after a few years I think everyone (except for the ankle bitters) have found their place. Guys in the living room, some of the wives playing card in the dinning room, some of the wives in the kitchen, and Kids EVERYWHERE!!

It was fun time and I think what I like most was seeing the house so full of activity, people eating, people having fun, and also just sitting and talking. The out come was not what I was hoping for as my dreaded enemy’s (The Steelers) played an excellent game and took home the Trophy. Not that the Cardinals did not play a good game, I think they played a game that was from the heart and they never gave up. One must think and appreciate the small victories that got both of these teams to the Super Bowl and how someone like Kurt Warner at one time was bagging groceries, but faught and won the small victories. I look at his family and for him he must be able to go home and see something bigger, brighter, and more valuable than the “Super Bowl Trophy”.

Down here, as well many of you we also go out and someday find ourselves in “The Super Bowl”, but how often do we just want to skip all of the work and just be there! However in many ways we all compete to be there, we all have our small, and big victories that lead us to “The Big Game”, but I think we need to be careful and make sure we count all Victories as victories for Christ, no matter how small they may seem. Hebrews describes the competition that we are in as Christians in a very encouraging way…

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” Hebrews 12 1

So, over the last few weeks I’ve had some small victories–  Small Group Bible study is going very well! I’ve been participating in the Churches Leadership meetings, Playing more of an active role with the worship team as I do sound, spending more time at Casa Esperanza–working-fellowship-and planning, tore apart the front end of the car and got it all put back together-and it works!, Time with Debbie-we hussle and bussle with ministry, but sometimes it’s hard to just have quality time and Saturday Kayak paddles have been nice.

So we march on! Always looking for opportunities and adventures in the grand, fun, and sometimes hard to understand life of ours.

Cheers!
