Funny though as we all connected in the morning we started with the Happy 4th of July and everyone was kind of excited about that and plus we were going to take them to “Los Globos”, which is a huge Fle market. You can find just about anything there, including a fresh pig all ready to get hacked up according to what ever you want—even the head! We strolled the rows and rows of vendors and I shopped for Tools, Hanna was looking for shoes for the kids at Casa Gabriel, and then we had the Big Event to get ready for—The First Annual Cheesy Gift Exchange!!!”. We all had to search for a very cheep and cheesy gift that we were to wrap and share. I made out fairly good on my tool search and ended up with 2 Snap-on wrenches, 2 Proto’s, and 2 Craftsmans, not bad!
For a bit we were a bit puzzled as to what to do for dinner on the 4th of July SOB and then I got a note from our intern Sarah from 3 years ago and she shared how much she liked our “Hot Dog Tour”,,,so that’s what we ended up doing. We took off to go for “Han’s Hot Dogs” but he was no where to be found, so we cruised around until we found what looked to be a good Hot Dog cart,,,and it was! Great Hot Dogs complete with Bacon, tomatoes, and grilled onions! We didn’t have a camera with us to capture the moment because we really just felt like the Locals heading out for Dogs and not so much tourist. We headed to Cart number two and had some Momias (Mummy’s) which is a hot dog wrapped up in a tortilla, then wrapped in bacon, and with cheese in the middle, sounds good, but a regular hot dog is better. We polished this Hot Dog Tour of 2009 with ice cream at La Michucana.
We made it back to the house and proceeded to engage in our Cheesy Gift give away, and Terry from Casa Esperanza also got to take part in it and this is what we all ended up with and who got the Best Cheesy Gift Award—- I got a multi-colored knitted hair piece, Terry got a Live Beta fish, Hanna got an old VHS of “Return of the Jedi”, Debbie got a funky looking multi-colored ink pen, Alex got and un-opened VHS work out tape called “Buns of Steel”, Ashley got a Pirate looking bandanna and a pirate accessory pouch. I think I got the award for buying the Buns of Steel VHS tape for on 5 pesos which is like .45 cents.
So although we were south of the Boarder we had a fun 4th of July complete with Hot Dogs and Cheesy gifts, but sorry,,,no pictures.
