Steve Waller not only brought a great bunch of kids, but he also brought me an intake manifold for the Sport Fury!

Last year as we sat in our quiet living room we heard that all familiar faint knock on the door and then seeing the dogs make a dash for the patio deck to see who was here. I slowly made my way down to see a young couple standing by our gate. The young lady introduced herself as Reyna from Casa Esperanza, and it took me a few takes to remember who she was and she could most likely see the look on my face so she said that Adriana sent her my way. Adriana is one of the Co-directors at Casa Esperanza. Reyna introduced me to her husband Danny and together they asked for help in building a home for them. We soon set the wheels into motion and before we knew it we had a special group make their way down to help Reyna and Danny.

Grace Brethren Church from Sunnyside Washington had made a few trips down here under the direction of Steve Waller and they had missed a few summers and we were so happy to hear that they would be coming down again. In the Summer of 2008 we finally reunited with our good friend Steve and his group of fantastic hard working youth. The first stage of construction was set  and now there would be the long wait for the summer of 2009 in hopes that Steve and the youth would return to complete the house,,,and they did!!

Last week Steve and his crew made the long 28 hour drive to San Diego and then down here to Ensenada and even though they were very tired from their long

journey they were very excited about completing the house. It was such a great week and we had a blast with Steve as he and I seem to feed off of each others off the cuff sense of humor. It was a bit challenging in the early stages as we constructed the the addition with a 12′x24′ complete with bathroom plumbing and walls. Everyone got right into the work and it was amazing to see how much was getting done and how nice it all came together. It was a blessing to also have Tory and Andrew who are Steve children with us. Tory helped with kitchen duties and Andrew came out to the work site with the crew and worked hard as well.

As we brought our week to a close we got to take part in a traditional tamale cook-out that included freshly wrapped tamales that were cooked over an open fire. It was an additional blessing to see the support they recieved from their family as Danny’s Grandmother and Great Grandmother showed up for the ceremony. Danny’s Great Grandmother Elizabeth was 97 years OLD! Reyna expressed her thanks to the group it what seemed to be typical words and then I think it really hit her as to exactly how much work had been done for them, and what it was going to mean to have a HOME. The tears began to flow and soon she found it very hard to speak and express her feelings.

To think of why Reyna was at Casa Esperanza and to no see her completely united with her family and to see Danny stepping forward to lead and care for his family is testament of the Lord we worship.

We ended out time with Steve and his crew with a trip to La Bufadora and had a fun time shopping,,,yes, we had fun! Deb and I even bought some items to add some color to our WHITE dining room. Lunch at La bufadora Restaurant was the best, Tory and Andrew found the buried treasure, and even took a picture with Black Beard himself—it was a great week!
