Our first house project was kicked into gear by Horizon Community Church of Galt California! It was exciting to finally get started on summer after what seemed to be a very long spring time dealing with all the issues that kept some groups from coming. This group from Horizon is special to us as it is made up of different families from the church. This year they were going to build a home for a Brother by the name of Gabriel. Gabriel is married and has two children and he has been waiting almost 2 years for this to happen. Gabriel aquired land from his father and one of the first things he wanted to do with it was to start a chruch! Many this vision is shared in order to get us to build a house, so
we waited to see what was going to happen and one day as we drove by the land they were standing up the walls (old garage doors) and building the church. At that moment we stoped visited and asked if he still needed help with a home to live in, and with much excitement he said “YES”! I then let him know that his home would be the first one for the summer of 2009.
Gabriel is a very up-beat and exciting person and his enthusiasim was felt by all. His wife was humble and kind and she was so happy to see part of their vision come to life, she even helped us stucco the walls! They shared how this would be the first time that would have something that they could call home and they started to move in and get things organized just a few days after the group left.
The family group that did this work made and incredible impact on Gabriel, and to us as well. For us it is always a joy to see these families working together to reach the same goal. This year Joseph and Jen Giordano and they did an awesome job. It was a blessing to see some faces from last year and to also make some new friends as well. I had a great time getting to met George and it’s men like this give me a great deal of encouragement and the knowing that adventures can last a life time.
I know for sure that Gabriel and his family will be waiting for the return of Horizon’s family trip and I’m sure that everyone from Horizon will be looking forward to seeing how Gabriel and his family have grown.
Besides the building that was going on the Horizon crew would also rush over to the Las Tres Palmas dorm site and conduct a VBS. The VBS lasted two days and with school still in seccion down the turn out was low, but day by day more kids would show up. Mirtha (our Pastor’s wife) is helping us this year and she is like the VBS queen and it very good at conducting these VBS’s.
