Ahhhwwweee! I cut off my Goatie so I can see exactly how bad it is.

Ahhhwwweee! I cut off my Goatie so I can see exactly how bad it is.

For the last couple years I’ve been walking around  looking like a snow storm had just taken place on my head. I’d wonder if people thought that maybe I had forgotten how to take a shower and how to wash hair. Also,,,behind my ears has also been a mess, thank goodness I like fairly long hair, so at times it was most likely hard to see. Debbie being the thoughtful wife has been brushing my shoulders for sometime now and this last Spring I finally could not take the discomfort any more, so I headed off to the Dermatologist. I was diagnosed with a type of Psoriasis, and I think I most likely have two types.

First though you have to know that I’ve always liked my hair on the long side, but due to my work long hair gets in the way at times and it looks funny after I’ve had my cap on for a while. Would you believe that when I was in High School I spent more time on my hair than my sisters spent on theirs!,,,,Yea, I was a scene right out of Saturday Night Fever—embarrassing to admit it. No complaints from Debbie as she kind of likes it on the long side as well. So the thought of some skin condition wiping out my hair was a scary thought and the last thing I was going to do is to shave my head.

I’ve been using 4 types of shampoos, and some type of watery liquid (I’ll post what they are later) and a cream for behind my ears, and for the most part it seems to have my condition under control, but yea, it does flare up on occasion. Nothing like scratching chunks of dead skin off of your head.

What is Psoriasis you ask… Here’s a link to some of the answers in regards to Psoriasis.  In Short it’s this…. “Psoriasis is a dry, scaly skin disorder. Doctors believe that it is genetic and is caused by the immune system being mistakenly “triggered”, resulting in skin cells being produced too quickly. Normally, skin cells take about 21-28 days to replace themselves. However, in patients with psoriasis they take around 2-6 days.”   I’ve been reading that Diet can have alot to do with why you have it, and Diet can play a big role in revealing the symptoms and discomfort. Dairy Products seem to be high on the list, and funny thing—My Cholesterol was also very high,,,yea, I love ice cold milk, lots of Cheese, I cooked everything in butter (lots of butter, and garlic), and of course I love Ice Cream.

I’m now on a diet,,,well kind of a diet. I decrease my dairy intake like big time, however I still eat my Yogurt, and I’m still drinking Milk. I guess I’ll eventually take the plunge and try NO dairy products which will do wonders for my Cholesterol and would it not be amazing if my Psoriasis, or at least the discomfort of it slowly went away.  I’m finding that with a good diet it can make a difference in how you feel, work, play… And having a daughter that’s a vegetarian keeps plenty of good recipes coming our way. Also,,,,I’m not big on Diet Hypes, but we love the South Beach Diet program—-Great Tasting Food!!!

So pray for me as I conduct my little experiment and deal with this sometimes embarrassing condition.

Adios Amagitos y Amagitas!!
