Last week seemed to be a very long week as we said good bye to one group and said hello to another. We worked along side one group that was not to far from home, Huntington Beach, and it was a group made up of mainly Senior Citizens, but man these people ROCKED! The youngest guy on the team was Rudy and he was just a tad younger than Deb and I, so this time around we were the youngen’s. We Started work on the over hang roof for the dinning patio and the ladies painted. The process on the roof was very unusual but it give a very rustic and authentic look. First we stripped off the old tiles and then stated to line the roof with Eucalyptus branches that were dried and coated with bug repellent. It was a very slow process and it sure was hard on the knees. Here’s a couple shots of the roof and then there’s a shot of Ohare, me and Rudy. Ohare is the Camp Miestro, which means he’s usually brains behind much of the building that goes on.

Ohare is 28 and is married and they have two twin sons with a baby on the way. His wife works in the kitchen as one of the cooks, and man can she cook.

The Seniors also took place in a very fun and venturous activity—-The Zip Line! Yea, these Seniors hooked up and took a ride on the zip line and it was a blast to watch, and it was a very inspiring thing to be a part of. Deb and I did it as well and Debbie some how found a tress and blasted through it.

The next group to come in is from Northern Carolina and they came to build a play ground from literally GROUND up. They are not working from any type of kit, but rather a very detailed set of plans and lumber that was carefully trimmed and prepared by Matthew who is the camps Carpenter. There has been much cutting, drilling, and lifting going on here for the last couple of days, but today it really started to take shape and by this Wednesday it should be completed.

Midway though the week we went to the Mindo and visited the Jungle, no I mean Jungle, complete with Toucan birds (well, I saw one, and one only), but to read up on that one just visit the page “A day in the Jungle”
