Funny being a missionary on a missions trip, but as the days go on I begin to see it in a different light. We are visiting the Scholls’s, so there are times we just enjoy talking to them about what they think of life here in Ecuador and we are able to relate in many ways. We also have opportunities to compare notes when it comes to working with groups and interns and I think all of us will eventually learn much from each other .

We have helped out on a couple of projects and much of what is being done this week is to prepare for a group that will be coming down next week to build a play ground. We are slowly getting to know the other staff members and workers and we have been able to share jokes and laugh as we get some work done. Today it began to rain a bit and I was telling the workers how in Ensenada when it rains everyone runs for cover, and kids stay home from school. They laughed at that idea and told me that everything proceeds as normal because if they stopped work every time it rained they’d never get any work done. But, after is started to come down a bit harder one of the workers said that he liked Dennis’s idea of running for cover and getting a hot cup of coffee—–but of course he was joking with me and we continued on..

So far we’ve worked on the new shop and prepared wood that would become part of the new play ground. I could not believe the beautiful wood that was being used, but here there is nothing but beautiful wood use and man is it heavy! At the shop three very large and heavy beams needed to be set and these beams were made with lumber from the cypress trees here at the camp. Howie would use the tractor to get them close and then we’d need to lift and place the beams into there spots, and man I could not believe how heavy they were.

Right now we are getting ready to go have pizza with the Youth World staff as every Tuesday this is their ritual,,,,well that is, when every pizza place in Quito has 2 for 1 it gives you a great reason to have a pizza party and engage in good fellowship.
